G&L is know for their AMAZING Greek Chili Dogs and when one of our store managers went to Comerica Park for a great baseball game they just has to try the hot dogs. So David Bartlett (General Manager of Holland Store) headed to Detroit with baseballs and hot dogs in his head. When he arrived he checked out his seats (7 rows up in front of 1st base), got comfortable and then got hungry. Dave felt he needed to try a hot dog and here are the results in Dave's own words:
Dave conducted two taste tests to determine if G&L, a west Michigan icon since 1926 had any competition from the east side of the state.
Dave started by tasting a Hebrew Kosher hot dog served by one of the vendors in the stands. At $5.00 the dog was four times the cost of a G&L hot dog and Dave thought that not only was the dog dramatically overpriced, but the dog and the bun were both on the cold side. No home run here!
Giving the east side another chance, Dave then went to the concession stand to taste test the classic Ball Park Frank. Although the hot dog was warmer, the bun was dry and with a cost of $3.50 was nearly three times the price of a G&L Chili Dog.
In the final analysis, Dave was completely convinced that G&L's grilled hot dog served in a soft steamed bun with mustard , chili and onions is a far superior product especially at only $1.25.
Reporting live from Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan that was David Bartlett.
